Types of Mount Board - Styrene, Foam Core, Gator Board and Standouts

.040 Styrene Styrene is a thin plastic material that is our least expensive mounting option. It is roughly 1 Millimeter thick. It has a completely smooth surface. It is easy to cut, and available in most any size up to 20"x30". This option is great for many uses as it easily can fit in a frame.

Foam Core This is the most common type of mount board. It is 3/16" thick and easy to cut. It does have a tendency to warp, which is most noticeable on large sizes (16x20 and up). Foam Core is less expensive than Gator Board, and is a great option for temporary purposes. Foam Core is white.

Gator Board Gator Board is very similar to Foam Core, except that it has a pvc backing which seals the board from moisture and makes it so that it does not warp like Foam Core. It is also easy to cut. The PVC backing is extremely slick and needs to be sanded down a bit in order to be able to glue it to anything. For example, you will not be able to stick it to a display by placing double stick tape on the back - the tape will not adhere to the back unless you sand it a bit first. Gator Board is black.

For larger mounted prints on Gator we can add 1" wood strips to the back along with a wire hanger for $15.00.

Standout Mounts Standouts are either 3/4" or 1.5" thick, and have a black edge around them to give them a finished look. The back also has holes cut in it to allow you to easily hang it on the wall. Standouts cannot be cut. Standouts are a great way to sell a finished, ready to hang print at an affordable price.
